Bite into Seville’s grilled calcots feast! Join us as we relive Catalan’s most renowned grilling tradition and feast on tapas, grilled calcots and house beverages to complete the experience. Happening on 2 February, 1pm – 5pm.
What is Calcotada?
Calcotada is a traditional foodie ritual from Catalonia, Barcelona, where calcots (a type of onion) are grilled traditional barbecue style ideally through a fire made with dried vine shoots – which is said to provide perfect fire and bring out finest aroma of the calcots.
The roots should not be cut off, allowing the calcots to retain its natural onion flavour and so they won’t burn out. Calcots are usually grilled in sets of 12 to 20 and should be completely grilled on one side before turning and cooking the opposite side. Calcots are ready when the tip is soft and the outer layer is burnt black.
Calcotada not only refers to grilling calcots, it also includes a variety of dishes such as meats like lamb, tapas or traditional sausages plus wine or other preferred beverages!
This February, we invite you to join the festivities of the Grand Calcotada at Seville’s.
