Your Fridays just got better as Blue Marlin Ibiza - UAE returns with a new season featuring Black Coffee and THEMBA on Friday 28 September 2018.
Considering his meteoric rise to fame, it would be easy to stereotype Black Coffee as just another black diamond, a BEE beat magnet out to mine the insatiable upwardly mobile urban house party market.
But as he proved on his South African Music Award-winning album “Home Brewed”, this DJ and producer defies convention.
Sidestepping Afro-house clichés and stage-managed highs in favour of restrained sophistication, Black Coffee's penchant is for true Afropolitan house: home-brewed but fresh and future-focused. Expect almost sculptural balance and beauty.
If one heard a clamour and ululating emanating from the eastern provinces of South Africa, KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape, announcing the recognition of a cultural phenomenon.. and their role in the development of this cultural phenomenon.. one could not argue were that clamour and ululating to be in respect of one.. that is the soul, spirit, talent and vision of Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, one better known as “Black Coffee”.
South African native Themba is certainly making a name for himself having burst onto the global dance scene in 2018 with a string of high profile gigs and music releases.
Highlights so far this summer have been his residency at Hi in Ibiza and a Mixmag Lab Live in NYC both with Black Coffee. Themba has also made his debut at Ushuaia, Blue Marlin and Pacha in Ibiza this summer.
His sound is forged from his African roots, incorporating local singers, songwriters and percussionists to create his own unique and distinct take on house and techno.
His debut 'Paliva EP' was released on the Knee Deep In Sound label in Spring, followed up by the highly acclaimed 'Who Is Themba?' on his own Herd label.
Themba has been made an ambassador for the Bridges For Music charity in South Africa, something very close to his heart.
Themba & Dubfire recently hosted a workshop for young students at their school in Langa, which aims to become a learning space and creative hub where these young, talented individuals are able to pursue their dreams and develop their music skills, both in production and the music business.
