Jameel Arts Centre, an independent contemporary arts institution, and Kerning Cultures are collaborating to host a podcast listening party for “Serious Jolt.” This episode talks about Yemeni coffee and its journey to a trendy coffee shop in the United States. The event is free and open to the public.
The episode centres around Mokhtar, who dedicated himself to specialty coffee in California. After noticing that there was a lack of Yemeni coffee in the market, he visited the country’s coffee farms in 2013. He made his way through war-torn Yemen – often dodging near-death experiences – before he introduced Yemeni Port of Mokha coffee to the Specialty Coffee Association Event two years later. To date, Mokhtar runs Port of Mokha despite the challenges of war and is dedicated to paying his farmers high, fair wages.
Attend this free talk, which is part of Jameel Art Centre’s night programming during Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.
