INFO
Jameel Arts Centre, an independent institution dedicated to contemporary arts, has designed a series of immersive, post-Iftar events throughout the month of Ramadan. On Tuesday, 28 May, it is hosting an open-invite conversation with curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath about their collaboration with Nujoom Alghanem, a poet, filmmaker and artist, for the UAE Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
The installation, titled “Passage”, was specially designed for the event. It consists of a two-channel video and twelve-channel sound installation, building upon Alghanem’s experimentation with contemporary Arabic poetry through film. The installation explores themes of estrangement and universal experiences of displacement, prominent features in the artist’s body of works.
The 58th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale is on view from 11 May to 24 November. The National Pavilion UAE is commissioned by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation and supported by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development.
