In Maitha Abdalla’s first solo presentation at Warehouse421, “Hollowed,” the artist investigates the concept of “hollowness” as a place or a feeling of emptiness that is devoid of any real worth or value. Maitha invites the audience on a journey through a series of video and sculptural artworks set in a surreal, deconstructed space. The works meditate on hollowness and its transformation into various forms: emptiness, memory, waiting, and finally rebirth.
Through her practice, Maitha aims to make socially-driven commentaries on the human condition in narrative form. Her work has a diaphanous and surreal quality, and is always.
The exhibition will run until 13 October.
